PhD position in Economics (Economic History / Health / Development), IESEG School of Management, University of Lille

29-03-2026 14:09

The IESEG School of Management and the LEM (Lille Economics and Management, CNRS–University of Lille) invite applications for a fully funded 3-year PhD position in Economics, starting in September 2026. The position focuses on Economic History, Family Economics, and Economic Development using historical data.

The PhD project, titled “Access to Healthcare, Human Capital and Economic Growth in France,” investigates how inequalities in access to medical services influenced demographic behaviour, human capital formation, and long-run economic development during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The project combines historical microdata, genealogical datasets, and modern econometric methods to study outcomes such as fertility, infant mortality, migration, education, and long-term socioeconomic trajectories.

The successful candidate will be integrated into the ANR-funded FaMiGrowth project (“Families, Migration and Long-run Economic Growth in Europe”), benefiting from access to large-scale genealogical data infrastructure and collaboration with an international research team. The PhD will be supervised by Thomas Baudin and Adrien Montalbo.
