The Historical Economics and Development Group (HEDG) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense, invites applications for one or more full-time, one-year predoc (research assistant) positions, with possible extension. The starting date is flexible, with a preferred start around 15 August 2026.
The successful candidate will work in a leading research environment in quantitative economic history, development, and long-run growth. The position supports research on large historical datasets, including projects on Danish trade and tariffs since the nineteenth century and on private foundations, medical innovation, and health inequalities in the early twentieth-century United States. Tasks include data construction and management, archival work, quantitative and econometric analysis, and the use of digital tools (including LLM-based methods) for transcription and data validation.
The position is well suited for candidates planning to apply to a PhD in economics or economic history. Applicants should have strong quantitative skills, experience with R and/or Python, and an interest in working with historical data. The working language is English.
