Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, Centre for History and Economics, Sciences Po, Paris
31-10-2022 22:20Applications are invited for two three-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowships at the Centre for History and Economics in Paris (CHE-P), Sciences Po, starting on 1 September 2023.
CHE-P encourages historical research on all aspects of economic life. It was established in 2022, the result of a collaboration between Sciences Po and the Cambridge-Harvard Joint Centre for History and Economics, and is hosted by the Sciences Po Centre for History. For more information on CHE-P, see https://histecon.fr/en/. Sciences Po is one of France’s leading institutions for research and teaching in the social sciences, law and history.
The two Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are in connection with the research programme on economic and environmental history, which is supported by the Cambridge, Harvard and Paris Centres for History and Economics. For further information about the programme, see https://histecon.fas.harvard.edu/ehc/. The annual gross salary will be 45.000 €. Employment in France guarantees full access to healthcare and other social security benefits. The fellows will have an annual research allowance of 2.000 €. In addition, an allowance will be available towards relocation costs, and Sciences Po will assist with the obtention of a visa if required.
The fellowships are intended for outstanding researchers early in their career. To be eligible, candidates must have defended - or be due to defend - their PhD between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2023. The PhD may be in another subject than history. Sciences Po’s working languages are English and French, and only the ability to work in English is required for these positions.
The fellows appointed will be expected to undertake research in the general fields of economic and environmental history, broadly defined. Applications are welcomed from scholars working on any part of the world or any period. The fellows will participate in the seminars and conferences arranged in connection with the programme and will have the opportunity to organize meetings and workshops on subjects related to their own research. The fellows will be invited to the Cambridge Centre for History and Economics in the course of the fellowships and will have the possibility of visiting the Joint Center for History and Economics at Harvard University.
Applicants are asked to nominate two referees through the online referee nomination portal. Applicants are advised to nominate the referees as soon as possible, before they complete their own application. This is to ensure referees are given sufficient notice to submit the letters of recommendation by the closing date of the competition.
Applicants should also complete an online application form and submit through the application portal a curriculum vitae and a statement of research interests (up to 1500 words). The curriculum vitae and the statement of research interests should be in English. The statement of research interests should highlight the significance of past and planned future research.
The deadline for receipt of applications and letters of recommendation is 23.59 EST on Friday 6 January 2023.
Long-listed candidates will be informed by the end of January and asked to provide up to two samples of writing within a week. These should be the length of a typical article or book/dissertation chapter and may be in English or French. Candidates shortlisted for interview will be informed at the beginning of March and interviews are expected to take place by Zoom towards the end of March 2023.
