Research Fellow position in Economic History at the University of Birmingham – School of History and Cultures (pre-doc/post-doc)

Work on the Leverhulme Trust funded research project "The Ascent Of Paper Currency In Britain, 1690s–1920s" with Hiroki Shin (Birmingham) and Nuno Palma (Manchester).

Salary: £37,174 per year

As a project-attached research fellow, you will be responsible for collecting and organising historical data from the Bank of England Archive and other UK archives, contributing to the creation of a large database on historical banknote users, and analysing monetary and financial history in modern Britain. This fixed-term position runs until September 2027.

This position is ideal for candidates with a first degree in economic history, modern history, economics, or economic geography. A PhD is not mandatory - we encourage MA holders (pre-docs) to apply! Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate complex information clearly are essential.
