Seventh European Historical Economics Society Fast Track Meeting, January 2022
The previous fast track meetings were held in Paris, Lisbon, Berlin, and London, organized by the European Historical Economics Society and the editors of the European Review of Economic History. They resulted in the publication of several high-quality papers in the European Review of Economic History. The idea of the meeting is to provide feedback and coaching to junior scholars (those no more than five years from completion of their PhD) working in any field of Economic History and to give them a chance to see their articles appear in print quickly.

The focus is on the lessons learned from the approaches and strategies of trade unions and social movements in terms of responses to the social and economic changes that accompanied globalisation.

The Fondazione Istituto Internazionale di Storia Economica “F. Datini” and the European School for Training in Economic and Social Historical Research (ESTER) announce their sixth jointly-organized Datini-ESTER Advanced Seminar for economic and social historians on 8-13 May 2022, in Prato (Italy) on: “Economic Innovations”. The topic of the seminar is closely related to the theme of the congress organized yearly by the "F. Datini" International Institute of Economic History and devoted in 2022 to The Knowledge Economy. Innovation, Productivity and Economic Growth. The 2022 Datini-Ester seminar will deal with Economic Innovations. We particularly welcome papers on technical and institutional innovations and their impact on the economic output. The seminar will not deal directly with the production factors, but with the effects on the productivity and efficiency of the economic system deriving from changes in the mix of the inputs. Our purpose is to clarify the role of technical and institutional changes in different economies and discuss the possibility of measuring their effects on gross product.

CfP: “Old and New Uses of the Oceans”, 8th IMHA International Congress of Maritime History, Transdisciplinary Research Centre Culture, Space and Memory (CITCEM), University of Porto, Oporto, Portugal, 28 June – 2 July 2022
The 8th IMHA International Congress of Maritime History is promoted by IMHA – International Maritime History Association, and will be hosted in Porto (Portugal) by CITCEM –U. PORTO (Transdisciplinary Research Centre Culture, Space and Memory – University of Porto) on June 28 – July 02, 2022.The main theme will be “Old and New Uses of the Oceans”, and the aim is to investigate the many aspects of the relationship between humans and the oceans. We sail the surface of the oceans, harvest their resources, and exploit the minerals on and under the ocean floor. The oceans are also used as inspiration, for literature and other forms of art, and they shape relations among humans – both distant and close ones. As with previous congresses, ICMH8 adopts a broad concept of maritime history, treating it as an interdisciplinary field that covers all historical periods and areas and all aspects of humankind’s relationship with the sea.

CfP for the session: "Revisiting Economic Nationalism", XIX World Economic History Congress, Paris, 25-29 July 2022
This panel explores the complex interplay between government strategy, interest groups and more popular “banal” economic nationalism in defining the content, priorities and ideological ownership of the malleable and flexible, yet powerful force of nationalism. We consider economic nationalism as a political and economic practice that co-evolves with globalization processes, rather than being suppressed by them as the most recent developments show. Since it influenced actors in a broad variety of social roles and historical contexts it can only be detected by a mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods by economic history. We do not only aim to shed new light on how and why economic nationalism rose to prominence and took different shapes at different times and place, and the economic implications of such a rise, but also discuss the advantages and drawbacks of using economic nationalism as an analytical concept. By adding to the reopening of the academic debate on economic nationalism in the 20th century, this session aims to identify new research lines to be addressed in the near future and to promote the development of international and collaborative networks of scholars interested in the topic.

"Those Infidel Greeks". The Greek War of Independence through Ottoman Archival Documents (2 vols.)
H. Şükrü Ilıcak (ed.) (2021)
