"The Lausanne Moment 100 Years On: Interdisciplinary Interventions", University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, 9-11 November 2023
A century after the signing of the Lausanne Treaty and the forced population exchanges it endorsed, the Lausanne moment continues to shape international politics and debates surrounding sovereignty, migration, security, and identity. While the Lausanne Treaty is one of the few treaties of the interwar period that have withstood the passage of time, perceptions of the Treaty have been less stable. The “unmixing” of communities, considered a valid peace-making tool in 1923 has come to be seen as mutual “ethnic cleansing.” Meanwhile in Turkey, fierce debate swirls around whether Lausanne should be considered a Turkish ‘victory’ or a ‘defeat’.
In Greece aspects of the treaty, such as the jurisdiction of the mufti to apply Sharia law in Western Thrace have faced solid legal criticism. Even as regional stability appears to be under threat, many insist that the treaty is a bastion of peace not to be touched. Discussion of the revisability (or not) of the treaty was enough to create a Greek-Turkish diplomatic incident. The conference aims to bridge the divide isolating the disciplines that have addressed the Lausanne treaty.

Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Συνέδριο "H Βενετική Πολιτεία, ο ελληνικός χώρος και οι ιστορίες τους (13ος-18ος αι.). Συνέδριο προς τιμήν της Αναστασίας Παπαδία-Λάλα", Τμήμα Ιστορίας και Αρχαιολογίας, Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών, Αθήνα, 1-3 Νοεμβρίου 2023
Το Τμήμα Ιστορίας και Αρχαιολογίας της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών διοργανώνει Διεθνές Επιστημονικό Συνέδριο με θέμα H Βενετική Πολιτεία, ο ελληνικός χώρος και οι ιστορίες τους (13ος-18ος αι.) Συνέδριο προς τιμήν της Αναστασίας Παπαδία-Λάλα.
Οι εργασίες του Συνεδρίου θα διεξαχθούν από Τετάρτη 1 Νοεμβρίου έως και Παρασκευή 3 Νοεμβρίου 2023, ως ακολούθως: 1-2 Νοεμβρίου, στο Αμφιθέατρο «Άλκης Αργυριάδης», Κεντρικό Κτίριο του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, Πανεπιστημίου 30 και 3 Νοεμβρίου, στο Ιστορικό Αρχείο Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, Σκουφά 45.

3ης Προκήρυξη Ερευνητικών Έργων ΕΛ.ΙΔ.Ε.Κ. για την ενίσχυση Μελών ΔΕΠ και Ερευνητών/τριών
Το ΕΛ.ΙΔ.Ε.Κ. συνεχίζει την αποστολή του για τη ενίσχυση της ερευνητικής προσπάθειας στη χώρα με την ανακοίνωση της 3ης Προκήρυξης Ερευνητικών Έργων για την ενίσχυση Μελών ΔΕΠ και Ερευνητών/τριών, συνολικού προϋπολογισμού 55.080.000 ευρώ.
Κύριος στόχος της δράσης είναι η υποστήριξη της υλοποίησης Ερευνητικών Έργων που θα διακρίνονται για την πρωτοτυπία, την επιστημονική ποιότητα και αριστεία, καθώς και τον σημαντικό επιστημονικό αντίκτυπό τους.

Call for Papers to Special Issue “Where Have All the Business Women Gone? Female Entrepreneurship in the long 20th Century”
We invite scholars to contribute to the special issue that will examine changes in female entrepreneurship over the twentieth century and the factors explaining these shifts. In the special issue, we define entrepreneurship deliberately broadly to capture the different manifestations of female entrepreneurship in the past. We define female entrepreneurs as women who were taking the risk and making business decisions on their own account to create new goods, services and ideas in the market under uncertainty, either as co-workers in family businesses, solo self-employed, employers, or innovators (Aston and Bishop 2020).

Virtual special issue of JEH honoring Claudia Goldin
In celebration of Claudia Goldin's Nobel prize, the coeditors of the Journal of Economic History are delighted to announce that a virtual special issue of JEH featuring her work is now available on the JEH's website. Claudia Goldin has made foundational contributions to the field of economic history, and has been an important contributor to JEH, both as author and as editor (1984-1988). The virtual special issue includes nine JEH papers authored or co-authored by Claudia Goldin, all of which will be freely available through the end of 2023.

Tα πιο πρόσφατα πορίσματα της ελληνικής ιστοριογραφίας, προκάλεσαν τα τελευταία χρόνια έντονο ενδιαφέρον για την ύπαιθρο, καθώς εστιάζουν σε συγκεκριμένες περιοχές με επίκεντρο μια επαρχία ή ένα δήμο. Οι νεότερες αυτές μελέτες περίπτωσης επιχείρησαν να διεισδύσουν σε πολλαπλά θεματικά επίπεδα όπως, το καθεστώς γαιοκτησίας, η σχέση πόλης-υπαίθρου, η αγροτική εργασία, οι μετακινήσεις των χωρικών, η εισροή προσφύγων, η διανομή των γαιών, τα αγροληπτικά και ζωοληπτικά συστήματα, η φορολογία, οι αγροτικές κινητοποιήσεις, οι πολιτικές σχέσεις, ο τραπεζικός δανεισμός, η εμπορευματοποίηση των αγροτικών προϊόντων, κ.ά. Ταυτόχρονα, οι αρχειακές πηγές που συνεχώς έρχονται στο προσκήνιο τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες, αποτελούν σύμμαχο σε αυτή την προσπάθεια κι ενισχύουν συστηματικά με τεκμηριωτικό υλικό τα νεότερα ιστοριογραφικά ερωτήματα.

Young Scholars Initiative and Figuerola Institute invite you to the Economic History Workshop of Developing Regions at Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M). There has been recent growth in the economic history literature on developing countries, backed by quantified evidence. However, this expansion lags significantly behind the well-established corpus of literature centered on the core European and North American contexts. Bridging this gap in the literature is crucial to comprehensively addressing the major questions in economic history. Indeed, we still lack comparable historical datasets of markets, land ownership, human capital, and tax records in developing regions due to limited access to primary sources and insufficient funding opportunities.

Call for applications: Two years research position at the University of Milano-Bicocca
It has been published a public competition for a two-years research position in economic history at the Department of Economics, Management, and Statistics of the University of Milano-Bicocca. The researcher will be involved in a research project funded by the Italian Ministry of University on the topic "Management and Consumption of the Natural Resources in Early Modern Italy (1500-1800)", focusing on the case studies of Bologna and Milan. Both the quantitative (amounts consumed, prices) and qualitative (supply areas, products) aspects of the consumption of the natural resources will be included in the analysis. Besides the salary, the researcher will be provided of relevant research funds for archival missions, conferences and publications.

Chair (Full Professor) in "Social and Economic History of the Early Modern Period", Department of History and Art History, Utrecht University
Utrecht University is searching for a full professor on the 'Social and Economic History of the Early Modern Period' as of May 2024. The chair will be embedded in the renowned Economic and Social History (ESH) section , at the Department of History and Art History (GKG). The newly appointed professor is or aspires to be at the forefront of their field of study. The chair will play a prominent role within GKG and the university's strategic themes, most notably Institutions for Open Societies and Pathways to Sustainability . In this capacity, the chair should have, or develop, a research agenda that is interdisciplinary and fits within and contributes to the research programme of the ESH section. This programme is transnational, long-term and comparative in nature. Teaching and supervision will involve the History Bachelor and (Research) Master programmes of GKG and possibly also the Philosophy, Politics and Economics Bachelor programme.

Μιχάλης Μ. Ψαλιδόπουλος (2023) Ο συγγραφέας της παρούσας μελέτης, Μιχάλης Ψαλιδόπουλος, ομότιμος καθηγητής Ιστορίας Οικονομικών Θεωριών του Τμήματος Οικονομικών Επιστημών του ΕΚΠΑ και σύμβουλος στο Ινστιτούτο Ελληνικής Ανάπτυξης και Ευημερίας του Αμερικανικού Κολλεγίου Ελλάδος, επιχειρεί να ερμηνεύσει ιστορικά και να αναδείξει την πολυσχιδή προσωπικότητα του κορυφαίου αυτού πολιτικού και διανοούμενου. Πέρα από την προσωπικότητα του Π.
